Kharkov National Medical University (KNMU) Ukraine is one of the oldest higher educational establishments of Ukraine. It was founded in 1805 as the Medical Faculty of the Kharkov University. The Degree (MBBS, BDS, MD, MDS, MS, NURSING) of the Kharkov National Medical University (KNMU) is prestigious and it is recognized in many countries of the world. Among former graduates of the University there are ministers and members of parliaments in various countries, outstanding scientists and famous specialists who founded their own clinics abroad. Within the period of their studies the students undergo academic training in main medical specialties. They take part in examinations of patients, giving urgent aid, work at X-ray rooms, clinical and biochemical laboratories. Particular attention is paid to clinical rounds of patients, their management, filling in and arrangement of case histories with their subsequent analysis. Clinical and theoretical training of the students is performed at 56 departments of the University and the best clinics of Kharkov with use of modern medical diagnostic and therapeutically equipment, computer software of the academic process, a wide use of audio and video aids.
KNMU has become an important centre for international students who need expert teaching . The University is currently training about 5,000 students, among them 900 foreign citizens, and its academic staff consists of more than 630 teachers, including 102 Doctors of Sciences and Professors, 387 Candidates of Medical Science, 32 members of academies, 17 Honored Scientists. Number of teaching/academic staff involved in teaching foreign students: total – 186, among them: doctors of sciences, professors (%) – 12.4; candidates of sciences, assistant professors (%) – 65.6. The training is provided in compliance with the general state syllabuses and curricula approved by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
At the dentistry faculty the curriculum is worked out for five academic years. The students master the basic subjects of medical and biological profile, as well as various clinical disciplines, which are so necessary for a dentist. On condition of successful completion of study the graduates are given the Diploma of a doctor – dentist. The curriculum foresees the further postgraduate education. The degree awarded is BDS.
The junior courses students study theoretical disciplines. Starting from the fourth course, they start studying clinical disciplines. At junior courses students study theoretical disciplines and, beginning from the fourth course, they start studying clinical disciplines. The chairs of anatomy, histology, normal physiology, biochemistry, general chemistry, having wonderful traditions in organization of educational process and high skilled teachers, could do profiles for the teaching of their disciplines, taking into account the faculty’s specificity. For mastering the propaedeutic course by students the departments have well equipped additional premises, acquired a necessary quantity of visual aids and special apparatus. All employees of the chairs and students took an active part in making the educational manuals. A metal-ceramic laboratory and a laboratory for high frequency melting and casting of dentures are specially organized. At special dental departments the students study principal actual problems of dentistry: caries, paradontosis, and diseases of the mucous membrane in the mouth cavity. The principle task of the dental faculty is perfection of higher dentistry education, raising the quality of doctor’s dental training. At the faculty they worked out and applied the complex of methodical ways for optimization of educational process, which is cognitive activity of students, development of habits for educational and researching work, training the creative method of approach for professional activity. The faculty of stomatology helps the students to obtain good knowledge in the dental field. It grows and develops, absorbing all the best from the experience of the University’s work.

Every student studying at KNMU undergoes clinical practice.
The Internship declares any student completing the curriculum as a complete dentist.
In India a student has to finish his screening test and undergo an internship in India before he/she gets his permanent registration in Medical Council of India or license to practice as a dentist.
